Jax Vineyards is an established Napa Valley Winery crafting winning wines by Kirk Venge. Our urban tasting room is a chic indoor/outdoor oasis in the heart of SoMa.

About Jax

Brother and sister team, Trent and Kimberly Jackson collaborated with their vintner “green thumb” father to found their first label in 1996. Over time the two identified their unique niche among next generation wine enthusiasts. Outliers from the dominating short list of old school napa wineries, the two saw an opportunity to buck the “en vogue” winemaking style of their day to focus on the unique terroir of their family vineyard. After all, “change comes first at a small scale driven by the smaller more nimble producers.”

Soon after, cult Winemaker Kirk Venge was recruited to create balanced wines reflecting varietal character and a sense of place. Passionate about our vineyard site, integral to our clone and root stalk selections, and now 20 years in, Kirk has reinforced their instinct that focus should always be on “sense of place” to understand the nuances that allow us to make great wine. Howells is not your typical wine bar. Although there is much focus on wine, Howells is not your typical wine bar. The overall feeling and experience are what they have come to call California comfort with surprises. The environment will be lively, filled with energetic music, a right balance of beer and wine choices, a healthy selection of food, and all wrapped in handcrafted interior elements. Opened in 2022, The Red Tail is owned and run by locals who value the neighborhood and the community it brings together. We specialize in a rotating list of local craft beer alongside a thoughtfully selected wine program, highlighting small producers, interesting finds, and classic favorites. Our focus is always on quality, variety, and value—giving you something new to try and something reliable to come back to.

If you would like to buy a bottle of wine from the shop and drink it at the bar, there is a $10 corkage fee for 750ml and $5 corkage for 375ml
